National Professional Qualification (NPQ) for Leading Teacher Development
For teachers who have, or are aspiring to have, responsibilities for leading the development of other teachers in their school. They may have responsibilities for the development of all teachers across a school or specifically trainees or teachers who are early in their career.
We’re pleased to be continuing to partner with education charity Ambition Institute, Beckfoot Trust and Dixons Academies Trust to deliver the new NPQ for Leading Teacher Development. In 12 months, participants will gain the knowledge to become teacher educators and successfully support fellow teachers to expand their skills.
What are National Professional Qualifications (NPQs)?
National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) are the most widely recognised qualifications in the education sector for current and aspiring leaders. NPQs are open to all teachers and leaders in schools in England and Wales.
What our teachers will learn:
- How to become expert teacher educators
- To become champions of quality teaching
- At a time and pace that suits their needs.
Benefits to our schools:
- One of a series of new, specialist NPQs
- Create confident teacher leaders
- Attract and retain staff.
Why were the NPQs reformed?
The reformed National Professional Qualifications (NPQs) offer teachers and leaders clearer development opportunities and career progression. These qualifications will build on key areas of the Early Career Framework (ECF), allowing for further specialisation and development of expertise and help prepare teachers and leaders for the next step in their careers.
The reformed qualifications aim to:
- Help teachers hone and develop the skills they already have, helping them to become more effective leaders inside and outside the classroom and improving overall teaching quality.
- Retain high-calibre teachers by offering clearer development opportunities and career progression.
